Welcome to Durare

As a kid, I often found myself standing in front of the TV transfixed with what was playing out in front of me. I wasn’t watching football or baseball, or any other mainstream sports. I was watching major endurance events like the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, the Tour de France, the Boston Marathon, or the Ironman World Championships.

A few months ago, my friend and now co-host, Jalen Wall, came to me with a unique idea. What if we started a podcast? I’d describe my immediate reaction as a combination of intrigue, excitement, and curiosity. Of course this reaction was quickly followed with the obvious question - what would the podcast be about?

Fast forward about 6 months and here we are. We’ve launched a podcast called Durare. We even have this slick new website to boot. But, as with any project, it took many small baby steps and certainly a few risks to get to this early stage of our little venture, but we’ve managed to crank out a few episodes, and we’re having a blast doing it!

In many ways, this podcast was inevitable. I think deep down I’ve been yearning for a way to share my passion for endurance sports. Not only does it allow me to tap into many childhood memories of being a young fan of endurance sports, but I can also lean on my years of experience racing as an endurance athlete, coaching others in their pursuit of big endurance goals, and seeing what it takes to organize big events as a race director to feel somewhat qualified to sit behind a microphone.

Of course none of it would be possible without my co-host Jalen. This guy brings youth, boundless energy, endless curiosity, and the kind of “can do” mentality that I have never before seen in a single person. Plus he’s passionate about endurance sports. Thank you Jalen, for making this possible!

So welcome to Durare! If you’re passionate about the history of endurance sports and want to get or stay inspired to help you pursue your own goals as a runner, triathlete, swimmer, cyclist, etcetera, this is the place for you!

Enjoy, and please tell your friends about Durare.
