The late Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja was one of the most audacious mountaineers and elite endurance athletes of the modern era. From his record-shattering mission to climb all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks in just over six months to his many extraordinary feats in the Death Zone, Nimsdai redefined what is possible at the highest places on Earth.
Nimsdai was a pioneer and a force for change, particularly for Sherpas, earning him hero status in his homeland of Nepal.
In this episode of Durare, we tell the story of the man who refused to accept the limits of conventional thinking, and climbed straight past them.
